Superfoods have become a craze over the last few years as they are essentially nutritional power houses!! Packed full of nutrients!
It is a marketing term but to be classed as a superfood it must contain an extremely dense concentration of vital nutrients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, good fats, healthy enzymes and/or other healthy properties.
Eating superfoods is not a quick fix and must be incorporated into your diet everyday along with healthy eating and exercise but eating superfoods has been scientifically proven through studies that they do promote weight loss and overall a healthier body & mind.
So how do these foods help you lose weight?
Each superfood has it’s own “magic” but overall a superfood can have fat blasting compounds due to certain ingredients. Spices for example are known for there thermogenic properties that boost metabolism! Each superfood has different ingredients and each ingredient has it’s own “magic” 🙂

Tomatoes have been classed as one of the worlds healthiest foods. Tomatoes contain a powerful fat blasting compound called 9-oxo-ODA. They also contain beta-carotene and lycopene which benefit weight loss. A long with that they are low calorie, low fat and rich in fibre. Tomatoes are very easily incorporated into the diet, the dish ideas are endless.
Many spices have thermogenic properties that boost the metabolism. So start experimenting with spices. Ginger can help with digestion (it also tastes amazing), Gingseng can boost your energy, Black pepper can help burn calories and Tumeric can help break up fat. Picture credit to Medical News Today.
Again something very easily added to dinners 🙂 Luckily I love spicy food so jalapenos, habaneros and chipotles can help you lose weight because of the ingredient capsaicin which has the ability to convert food into energy which speeds up abdominal fat loss. Apple Cider Vinegar
This is one thing I have not tried but witnessed the craze of it a few months back. Lots of people started to have a spoonful of apple cider vinegar in water every morning (or before a meal) and to be fair they were losing weight so it must do something. I am intrigued by it and may try it. It is classed as a superfood because it is acidic and this can increase the rate at which your body burns up carbs. It can also boost your metabolism, help digest food and regulate blood sugar levels. Can’t imagine it’s very appetising and especially when it’s advised to not purchase a crystal clear looking vinegar but the one that looks murky. Picture credit to Authority Nutrition.
Berries (especially blueberries) are loaded with polyphenol antioxidants that help burn fat as well as preventing fat from forming. Load them into smoothies or juices for the full effect 🙂 Which reminds me I need to start having my smoothies everyday 🙂
Love love love sweet potato 🙂 They have fewer calories than white potato. They are a slow carb because they are digested slowly. They also are loaded with powerful nutrients that stabilize blood sugar levels, lower insulin resistance and prevent calories from turning to fat. Incorporating healthy foods into your diet is a big step towards a healthier life and healthier you!
I firmly believe by eating these foods regularly it has played a massive part in maintaining my weight loss. I always feel good when I eat good.
