This is me and mum’s seventh year going to Sligo for our annual Christmas shopping break.
It began when the pound to euro conversion rate was excellent so we started shopping in Asda in Enniskillen and would stay in Sligo and also do a bit of shopping 🙂
Even when the conversion rate was terrible we would still go as it became a tradition and we would get lots of Christmas shopping done in both places 🙂
Sligo is a beautiful town with great restaurants, hotels and shopping outlets.
Please keep reading to find out where to stay, eat and shop 🙂
For the third year we stayed in The Glasshouse Hotel.
It is Sligo’s only 4 star city centre hotel located in the heart of Sligo looking over The Garavogue River.
The interior design is very modern with a funky twist.
There are 2 bars which are both very comfortable and have table service. They have a great cocktail menu.
The Kitchen Restaurant is large and spacious with gorgeous food!
Customer service is excellent in all areas of the hotel from the girls at reception to the staff in the bar and restaurant.
The bedrooms are fantastic. So spacious and comfortable with excellent views. The beds are very comfortable, TV has a large range of channels, free wifi and temperature controlled heating/air con.
Underground car parking available at a rate of €3 per night for residents.
We got a great deal for accommodation and food. €145 per person, 2 nights accommodation, breakfast on both mornings, 3 course dinner on one evening and a mini bottle of prosecco each.
Would highly recommend The Glasshouse and will continue to stay there when we are in Sligo.

There are many shopping outlets to visit during your stay in Sligo.
There are 2 shopping centres located in the town. Johnston Court which is located on O’Connell St. and Quayside Shopping Centre which is located on Wine St.
Johnston Court has lots of fashion outlets, Boots and Elverys just to name a few.
Quayside is probably our favourite. Fantastic mix of stores including Tiger, Dealz, River Island, Next, TK Maxx, Monsoon and Cara Pharmacy just to name a few.
The TK Maxx in particular is excellent especially for beauty products, they have a large range of high quality products at very reasonable prices.
Both centres have Santa Claus experiences with photo opportunities and gifts for the children. The effort made with Christmas decorations is fantastic!
The Penney’s located on O’Connell St. is fantastic! Excellent range of clothing, beauty products and homeware. We spend ages in there lol
Sligo town itself has fantastic shops showcasing local designers along with Pandora, Carraig Donn and so much more! It’s a beautiful place to walk around and discover small shops down the side streets etc..
There is also a retail park just outside of the town. It is not within walking distance. Here you will find Smyths Toys, Homebase and much more! There is also Costa Coffee, McDonalds and KFC.
If you fancy food outside of the hotel, I have a two recommendations.
Usually it is quite late when we come back from Enniskillen and we were starving for pizza in particular so I looked up pizza takeaways in the town and I came across Roberto’s. It is located on Market St. in the centre of town. Honestly one of the nicest pizzas I have ever had and I am a huge pizza fan lol
Sligo has a large range of Italian restaurants and cafes located in The Italian Quarter. On our last day we popped into A Casa Mia. They are open seven days a week serving coffee, breakfast, fresh homebaked cakes & desserts, tasty lunches, evening tapas and fine wines. It is such a beautiful quirky restaurant/cafe that is also very child friendly. The staff are so friendly and it is a very relaxed environment. The Lasagne was to die for, so delicious and served with a garlic ciabatta. Next time we will definitely be popping in for some wine 🙂
I can’t rate Sligo highly enough! We love it everytime and are always sad leaving.
