It is essential to keep the kids entertained but more so during the Summer.
Like all kids my daughter can get extremely bored staying at home and being at the same places all the time so I like to take her off any chance I get.
I’ll start off with one of my favourite places in the whole world!
Spanish Point/Miltown Malbay Co. Clare 🙂
We are so blessed that the family has a cottage in Spanish Point. So for as long as I can remember we were down there a lot as kids. There is so much to do down there, weather pending. But it doesn’t necessarily have to be sunny. First off the Spanish Point beach is fantastic, very big, safe and lots of exploring to be done. You can have a lovely walk also. I take my daughter down there even in the winter/autumn to build sandcastles etc.. just wrap up warm lol 🙂 The playground in Miltown Malbay is brilliant, it is located just behind SuperValu as you you are coming into Miltown Malbay. Excellent for all ages. In Spanish Point there is place which we call “Claydaugh” (not sure if it’s actually called that) where you can go fishing with the kids in around the rocks. It is located past The Armada hotel heading towards Lahinch, just over the bridge on the bend on the left hand side. You can also take a walk up along the cliff BUT PLEASE BE CAREFUL & if it is windy I would advise not to go up. The Whitestrand beach is also 5 minutes away from Claydaugh, take the left at the junction and follow the sign posts. Quilty beach is also not far from Spanish Point and is a beautiful. Take a picnic and your sorted 🙂
Killaloe Co. Clare & Ballina Co. Tipperary.
We ventured out to Killaloe Co. Clare last week and headed for the beach. I was shocked they had a beach I didn’t even know it was there. It is a blue flag beach with a lifeguard. Lots of room to lay out and a few picnic tables, bring a picnic 🙂 You can also take a walk down by the water and see all the little piers. You can feed the ducks, be weary of the swans. And there is also clean bathroom facilities. We then headed over to Ballina playground. This is by far one of the best playgrounds I have been in. There is also a small astro turf and an outdoor swimming pool!! I couldn’t believe it but it was lovely. Music playing, plenty of lifeguards and a great atmosphere. And it was actually drizzling rain when we were there but it wasn’t bothering anyone. I am sure you have to pay to use the swimming pool and astro turf but can’t imagine it would be much. The walk way down a long the river also has lots of “exercise machines” which are great fun, we all used them! And the view is stunning. Ballina is located on one side of the bridge and Killaloe on the other.
NewMarket On Fergus Co. Clare.
By far probably the best playground we’ve ever been in. There is so much to do here for all ages and is a very different playground, nothing like I’ve seen before. Lots of different sections for all different ages. A lot of work has really been put in here and you can find more information here >>>
Loads more activities to do this Summer, here’s a few >>>
- Galway City Museum is free of charge and tells the story of Galway’s past and regularly hosts arts & craft exhibitions.
- The Hunt Museum Limerick has free arts & crafts workshops the first Sunday of the month (7th August being the next).
- Duncannon Sand Sculpting Festival Co. Wexford, I definitely want to go to this! It runs from the 5th August to the 7th and most of the activities are free.
These are just to name a few! I would have included Curraghchase County Limerick but they are charging at the moment 😦
And also Coole Park, and I have a full blog about Coole park here >>>
Hope everyone has a wonderful Summer 🙂
